PORTLAND, Oregon - A critical injury crash has closed I-84 westbound at Northeast 122nd Avenue.

On Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:36p.m., North Precinct officers responded to a crash on westbound I-84 at Northeast 122nd Avenue. They learned an adult female was critically injured. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance where she later died the same night.

Apparently the woman had been driving a car involved in a crash, got out of her car, and was struck by at least 2 cars and possibly as many as four cars.

The driver of the first car that struck Simons stopped and cooperated with police. The driver, who was not identified, was not considered to be at fault, police said.

The other vehicles that hit her did not stop, according to police, and investigators are treating the incident as a hit-and-run. Police did not release a description of any of the vehicles.

She died of her injures after being transported to a local hospital. She was identified as 37-year-old Carrie Lynn Simons. Her family has been notified of her death.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded and investigated. I-84 westbound was closed at Northeast 181st Avenue.
