JOYCE, Washington - A man died Wednesday evening after he attempted to administer CPR to his wife's after she collapsed.

He called 9-1-1 to report his wife had a heart attack, but was found slumped over her body when medics and deputies arrived about eight minutes later. The woman was 59 and her husband was 60. Both died.

The names of the couple have not been released until the officials are sure family members have been notified.

The man apparently died of natural causes, possibly a heart attack from the stress of witnessing his wife's death.

He was apparently performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on his wife when he died, according to the Clallam County Sheriff's office.

Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. John Keegan called the incident strange but said no foul play is suspected.

"Usually events like this don't happen in pairs," he said.

The couple lived on state Highway 112 about 10 miles west of the junction with U.S. Highway 101.
