WOODBURN, Oregon - Woodburn French Prairie Middle School teacher Luis Guevara in Woodburn was arrested and accused of kissing a high school student.

Guevara, 30, a French Prairie Middle School teacher is also the Woodburn High School girls' basketball coach.

Police have not said how they discovered the information, but say Guevara texted several girls on the basketball team and had a romantic relationship with one of the girls.

Corporal Mike Araiza with the Woodburn Police Department said, "Due to his position as a teacher and the trust placed in him, he did something inappropriate or to violate that trust."

Police say Guevara texted several girls on the basketball team and kissed one of the girls more than once.

"Often times that type of behavior they consider, what they call, grooming behavior," Araiza said. "So that you befriend somebody, you start trying to get a little bit more personal to increase that relationship that leads to trust. Then unfortunately, often times that trust is violated and leads to things like kissing which can lead to more."

School officials say Guevara has no prior criminal record and that they have placed him on leave.
