Clackamas County Sherif Detective Jim Strovink said it was " ..an incredible sight". "The nose of the truck was facing upriver and the cab was almost submerged, probably three-quarters of the way filled with water," The ODOT dump truck driver told dispatchers he blacked out while driving along Highway 224 and ended up flying some 140 feet into the river. He called 911 while sitting on his truck hood, partially submerged, waiting for help. "
Trees along the highway probably slowed the vehicle down enough that it perhaps saved the driver's life," Strovink said. A marine rescue team from the Sheriff's Office reached the driver by boat and got him to shore by mid morning. There were apparently no serious injuries, Strovink said. The truck was as a Ford flatbed dump which was part of a fleet of Oregon Department of Transportation vehicles.
