Trooper locates wrong-way driver in Eastern Oregon moments before colliding with car

BAKER CITY, Ore. - A state trooper located a wrong-way driver on Interstate 84 - moments before the oncoming car crashed into his police cruiser.

The trooper was evaluated and released from the hospital after the crash.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with minor injuries - and later arrested on charges of Attempted Assault II, Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment.

The situation started Friday, March 12, 2021, with a call to Oregon State Police dispatchers at 1:59 p.m. reporting a wrong-way driver on I-84 in Baker County in northeastern Oregon.

"The reporting party saw a silver sedan driving westbound in the eastbound lanes," state police said. "Troopers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the wrong way driver."

At 2:04 p.m., a trooper "located the wrong way driver just prior to colliding with it eastbound on Interstate 84 at milepost 327."
