Fans of interesting TV know Christina Hendricks for her distinctive performances as smart, capable women, including Joan in "Mad Men" and Beth in "Good Girls." But it turns out that Hendricks is also a pioneer when it comes to wearing a mask, something health officials now advise us all to do to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

In a guest appearance earlier this week on "Late Night With Seth Meyers," Hendricks was promoting "Good Girls," which returns for Season 4 Sunday on NBC. But Meyers also praised Hendricks as "an early mask adopter," showing a photo of a youthful Hendricks wearing some sort of homemade mask.

"The reason I'm wearing the mask Is because Mount St. Helens erupted, and I lived in Portland, Oregon," Hendricks said, adding that her family could see the eruption "from our front porch, and the ash was pouring on our house."
