Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of Thursday morning's single vehicle fatal crash on Highway 126E west of Leaburg that resulted in the death of a 56-year old Vida woman.

According to Trooper Jered McLain, on December 15, 2011 at approximately 2:14 a.m. an off-duty volunteer firefighter drove upon an unreported single vehicle traffic crash into a tree along Highway 126E near milepost 18. An adult female was found inside the car and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by CHERYL ANN CRAWFORD, age 56, from Vida, was eastbound when, for an undetermined reason, the car traveled across the westbound lane and collided head-on into a large tree on the north side shoulder. Safety restraint use information is not available for this release.

OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

McKenzie Fire & Rescue and ODOT assisted at the scene. One lane was closed during the investigation.
