Engine 2 and Engine 1 arrived within four minutes and reported seeing heavy smoke. Crews quickly knocked down the fire. A primary search was conducted and confirmed that the three adults and one child living in the home made it out safely. The homeowner advised crews that two pets were still missing. A secondary search located a dog and a cat that sadly perished. One adult resident was evaluated by paramedics at the scene for reported non-life-threatening injuries. A chaplain responded to the incident to provide support to the residents and crews.
The fire investigator determined the cause to be a cooking fire. The fire spread quickly from the kitchen area to the entire back of the home and patio covering and caused significant damage.
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue was assisted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Metro West Ambulance, Hillsboro Police, and Portland General Electric.
