NEWBERG, Oregon – The City of Newberg has received the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019. The Certificate of Achievement honors government organizations that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive financial reports that show evidence of a spirit of transparency and full disclosure. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

To receive an award, the City’s CAFR is judged by an impartial panel through the Government Finance Officers Association that determines if the CAFR meets the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The City of Newberg has received the Certificate of Achievement 26 of the last 28 years. This year, and for many years prior, the City has received the desired goal of scoring “proficient” in all scoring categories. The preparation of the CAFR consists of the efforts of many individuals inside the City of Newberg and particularly, the Finance Department, who authors and edits the CAFR.

The City of Newberg is honored to receive this recognition and continues to strive to publish financial reports that offer transparency to our community.
