Armed 23-year-old Woman with knife Arrested for attempted murder In Albany
Story by by Maggie Elliot - The Oregon Herald
Albany Police confirmed Martin was in front of a Linn County Deputy's residence armed with a knife and wanted police to shoot her. Albany Police responded to the area and located Martin standing on the sidewalk holding a knife. Albany Police Officer Koddie Lowery spoke with Martin from a safe distance and attempted to get her help. Martin refused assistance and disregarded directives to drop the knife she was holding.
Martin reportedly charged Officer Kyle Libra from one-half block away while armed with the knife. Officers repeatedly ordered Martin to stop but she refused, continuing to run at Officer Libra with a knife. Officer Libra shot Martin with a less-lethal 40 mm impact weapon which caused Martin to stumble and fall within 10 feet of another Officer. Martin attempted to get up with the knife and was then tased by other officers, allowing officers to secure the knife and take custody of Martin.
Police say that during the incident, officers maintained a safe distance while communicating with Martin. This was an extraordinary event where our officers used good judgement and tactics to avoid using lethal force in this situation.
Martin was taken to Samaritan Albany General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries relating to the incident and a mental health evaluation.
On April 28, 2020 Martin was taken to the Linn County Jail on the following charges:
- Attempted Murder
- Attempted Assault in the First Degree (3 counts)
- Menacing (5 counts)
- Attempted Assault on a Peace Officer (3 counts)
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
