PORTLAND,Oregon - On Friday, September 6, 2019 at 2:07 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of an alarm to a business in the 4900 block of Southeast Foster Road. When the officers arrived, they found a man trying to defeat the front door lock using a powder-actuated concrete fastener tool (photo). The man had not been able to make entry.

When challenged by the officers, the suspect took off running and the officers pursued. During the chase, the suspect tossed away a handgun. The suspect was arrested. The handgun was recovered and seized as evidence (photo).

Christopher G. Heil, 27 (photo), was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Escape in the Third Degree, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon, Attempted Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Theft in the First Degree.
