PORTLAND, Oregon - Tonight at 10:27 P.M., a Central Precinct officer witnessed a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue. The officer requested medical attention for the injured pedestrian, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries. After the pedestrian was evaluated by doctors, officers learned that the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Preliminary information is that the vehicle was eastbound on West Burnside and the pedestrian was crossing at 3rd Avenue.

The intersection of West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue is closed during the investigation. PPB Traffic Division and the Forensic Evidence Division were called to the scene.
