34-year-old woman killed on sidewalk when motorist leave road

PORTLAND, Oregon - On Saturday, January 5, 2019, just before 3PM, 34-year-old Rachelle D. Cox, of Portland. was struck by a car that left the road and drove onto the sidewalk, strucking Cox.

Preliminary information suggests Cox was walking on a sidewalk next to Northeast Airport Way when the driver of a Subaru Legacy left the roadway and struck Cox. Officers located the driver of the Subaru. The Subaru was seized as evidence.

Officers and emergency medical responders arrived on scene and found Cox lying on the ground. Emergency medical personnel determined the pedestrian was deceased.

A caller to 9-1-1 provided an emergency call-taker information about the vehicle believed to be involved in this crash. Officers responded to the location provided by the caller and located the vehicle and driver near Northeast Airport Way and Northeast Riverside Parkway.

During the investigation, Northeast Airport Way was closed between Northeast Mason Street and Northeast Riverside Parkway.

It is early in this fatal traffic crash investigation, at this time there is no additional information to provide regarding the crash. More information will be provided as more is learned about this fatal traffic crash investigation.
