On Saturday April 30, 2011 at 4:02 PM Portland Police Officers responded to a call of a woman assaulted and being held against her will at a nearby location. Officers developed information that a woman had been brutally assaulted and was being held at a nearby residence. The woman was believed to be severely injured and being kept in a bedroom at the house. Officers feared the woman was in need of serious medical attention.

Officers determined the location of the residence was 9815 North Midway Avenue. Understanding the urgency of the situation, officers staged an ambulance nearby. They formulated a tactical plan to approach and enter the residence. The plan included containment of the location, a custody team, an entry team, and a police canine.

Officers approached the residence and ultimately made entry into the house. An officer located the injured woman in the back bedroom. She was treated and transported to hospital.

Detectives responded and subsequently arrested and charged Kip Kawamoto with Assault in the Second Degree, Rape in the first degree, Sodomy in the first degree and Kidnap in the first degree. Kawamoto was lodged at the downtown Multnomah County Justice Center. The investigation is continuing.
