Travel plans of Japanese students of Yoshikawa City, Japan to visit their sister city students at Lake Oswego has been canceled.

The students had been scheduled meet their Sister City students in Lake Oswego between March 29 and April 5, hosted by local Oregon families.

On Wednesday, a Lake Oswego City representative stated, "as a result of the catastrophic events in Japan this year's visit has been canceled."

Nearly a dozen families had been assigned Japanese students and were looking forward to meeting their counterparts from Japan but understand why the visit had to be cancelled.

Japan's 9.0 earthquake and devastating tsunamis and now radiation poisoning from nuclear facilities have devastated families in Japan.

Yoshikawa City is located 20 miles northeast of Tokyo with a population around 60,000 people.
