This morning snow was reported in Longview, Clatskanie, and Southwest Portland. Trees felled by high 30 mpg winds in Portland knocked out power to 4,000 customers. No injuries were reported but a downed tree on Center Street in Salem blocked traffic, causing delays and another huge tree fell across a residential street. A landslide on Highway 30 blocked eastern traffic.
In Portland, heavy rain, standing water and numerous crashes had freeways blocked long before rush hour. In Clackamas, downed trees knocked out power and blocked roadways.
The National Weather Service posted warnings and advisories for mountain passes, which could be extremely treacherous. Snow levels could fall to 500 feet as strong rain passes and mixes with cold air.
More high winds are expected through this morning but the storm is expected to lighten a bit by this afternoon. However, later this week as March blossoms, another storm is expected bringing higher wind gusts and more rain.
