PORTLAND, Oregon - 17-year-old junior Charley Engelfried, a student and wrestler at Dallas High School, collapsed and died after a match at Silverton High School at last night.

Engelfried had just pinned his opponent and shook his coach's hand but despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at a Silverton hospital.

Engelfried was known as a "gentle bear" with a wonderful sense of humor. Friends say he worked to do the right thing all of the time.

The Dallas High School flag was at half-staff today. School counselors are available to talk to students, many who were tearful and willing to talk about the bear of a wrestler. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. It is not yet know if he had an existing health problem.
