Police are looking for a man who robbed Kassab Jewelers of $50,000 in jewelry in downtown Lake Oswego Monday.

Lake Oswego Police say the store was robbed at 2 p.m Monday after the thief walked into the store at 310 N. State St. He then distracted the lone sales clerk and asked to see jewelry from the display cases in the front of the store. He then said to the clerk, "My girlfriend loves this gold necklace in the front window, can you get it for me and tell me what the damage is going to be?"

He then quickly jumped over the counter, ran to the backroom safe, grabbed a box of loose diamonds and stormed out of the store.

It all took less than 15 seconds.

The clerk described the perpetrator as a white male, 20 to 30, 6 feet tall, weighing about 160 pounds, and wearing a black jacket, black cap, khaki jeans, and black ski gloves.

Officers surrounded the area with a K-9 unit was called but were unable to find him and currently have no leads.

"This person clearly knew what he was doing and what he was looking for," said Lt. Doug Treat of the Lake Oswego Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 503-635-0238.
