PORTLAND, Oregon - A woman walking her bike in a bike lane along Barbur Boulevard was struck and killed by a vehicle in southwest Portland Wednesday evening. The driver of the car has been arrested and was under the influence of intoxicants.

The female victim, identified as 26 year old Angela Burke was walking her bicycle when she was struck by Caleb Pruitt, 28. Burke began to cross Barbur and was hit by a southbound 2008 Subaru Impreza driven by Pruitt.

Investigators learned that Pruitt was speeding just prior to the collision and appeared to lose control of the car before striking and killing Burke, police said.

He was arrested and identified as the driver of the car. An unidentifed passenger in the car was also injured and taken to a hospital, but is expected to survive.

The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. at Southwest Barbur Boulevard just north of the entrance to the Town and Country Apartments at 4820 SW Barbur, which are on the opposite side of the street. Police say Pruitt was driving at a high rate of speed prior to the collision, police say, and appeared to lose control of the 2008 Subaru Impreza just before the impact.

Angela Burke died at the scene. Pruitt was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of DUII and Criminally Negligent Homicide.
