HIGHWAY 28 - Three people die in a traffic accident on Hwy 58 southeast of Springfieled and west of Black Canyon Campground around 10:15 AM on Sunday morning. Two others were critically injured. Late morning Sunday, May 30 just south of Sweeney Creek, a Ford Taurus, operated by 31-year-old James Johnson Oakridge, was westbound passing in a no passing zone when it side-swiped a Chrysler Town and Country car also westbound, operated by 63-year-old Michael Cary Oakridge.

The Taurus then collided head-on with an eastbound Mazda 3, killing three of the passenger inside the Mazda, pronounced dead at the scene by State Police. A fourth occupant was transported by air ambulance to a hospital with serious injuries.

Cary was not transported but later went to the hospital for treatment. Johnson was transported to the hospital.

The identity of those who died were withheld pending family notification.
