Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset Tuesday. The order mirrors a proclamation from President Joe Biden.
"I am deeply saddened by the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol earlier today, especially at a time when Capitol police officers are still feeling the effects from the events of January 6," Brown said in a statement.
Police identified the slain officer as William "Billy" Evans, an 18-year-veteran who was a member of the department's first responder unit. They have not identified the other officer who was injured. They identified the suspect as Noah Green, 25. Officers shot Green after the attack, and he died at the hospital. Read full story
