SALEM, Oregon - A man accused of killing another man during a fight at a West Salem bar last January has been found not guilty of murder by a Polk County judge.

Family members hugged Brent William Phillips as he was released from Polk County jail Monday afternoon.

Judge William Horner issued a verdict Monday in the bench trial, saying Phillips killed 24-year-old Christopher Lindsay but that Phillips acted in self-defense.

Phillips was accused of cutting Lindsay's throat outside The Fifty Pub & Grub on Jan. 24. Friends of Lindsay sobbed outside the courthouse.
