Update: Tragically this shooting has become a homicide. 25-year-old Deandre Clark died just after midnight today, Monday, October 24, 2011.

There will be an autopsy scheduled today and more details regarding the cause of death will be released at that time.

On Friday, October 21, 2011 at about 10:10 p.m. Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to call of shots fired on Haight Avenue at Emerson Street. Arriving officers found a group gathered in the street and a 22-year-old African American man shot.

Officers immediately called for Portland Fire and AMR ambulance to respond to the scene. They arrived quickly and transported the man to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers established a large perimeter Killingsworth to Alberta, Emerson to Albina. Officers called for a police canine to respond to the scene and assist in the search. No suspects have been arrested at this time.

The Forensic Evidence Division responded and processed the crime scene and the Gang Enforcement Team also responded and began the investigation. Information available at the scene confirmed this was a gang shooting.

It is important to note that this incident did not arise out of a problem at the football game. The game was well attended and was without incident.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Gang Enforcement Team.
