HOOD RIVER, Oregon – An 18-year-old Forest Andrews was killed today just hours before his high school graduation.
He was skateboarding in downtown Hood River as he was skateboarding and he slid under the wheels of a semi truck. The boy was apparently not wearing a helmet. Andrews jumped off his longboard and tripped while trying to slow down on foot. He rolled under the trailer and was run over.
Forest Andrews's friends, Victoria Love and Ellie Robertson, say he was an excellent artist and that graduating now was bittersweet.
"It was hard to get so excited about graduating when he wasn't here with us to share this moment," said Victoria Love. "He so deserved it."
"He's going to be really missed," Robertson said.
Forest Andrews was scheduled to graduate tonight night with his friends and classmates from Hood River High School.
Hood River Schools Superintendent Charles Beck said that during the graduation ceremony he plans to have a group of counselors available in the high school and at the all-night party, and a moment of silence after the national anthem.
