John Kitzhaber took the oath of today for an unprecedented third term as the Governor of Oregon. Governors are limited to two consecutive terms in Oregon. But John Kitzhaber sought, and won, a third go-round after Ted Kulongoski's two terms were up.
Kitzhaber once again has the power as Oregon faces a $3.5 billion deficit. The Democrat acknowledged the difficult days ahead during his inaugural address to a packed House chamber.
John Kitzhaber: "We are gathered here today at a sobering and humbling moment in Oregon's history: sobering because of magnitude of the challenges ahead of us; humbling because the people of the state of Oregon have chosen us to find a way forward, and to build a better future for our state and for our people."
Kitzhaber wasn't the only one to make history on Inauguration Day.
Democrat Arnie Roblan and Republican Bruce Hanna became the first ever co-speakers of an evenly divided Oregon House.
In the Senate, Peter Courtney was elected Senate President for an unprecedented fifth time.
