TIGARD, Oregon - A boy was tossed out of his bed after a speeding car rammed into his Tigard home Wednesday morning. The accident happened not long after midnight at 8115 SW Bonita Road, in Tigard. Police have said the driver was drunk as he raced through the neighborhood.
“The impact was so significant that it knocked the home off its foundation by a foot and severed natural gas lines,” said Brian Barker, a spokesman for Tualatin valley Fire & Rescue.
The car rammed the outside wall of the boy’s bedroom, knocked and him off his bed. He woke up startled but not injured. His parents were sleeping in their own bedroom. They also were not hurt.
"The occupants of this home are very lucky that they weren't injured," said TVF&R Battalion Chief James Davis.
Firefighters had to cut the driver out of the smashed car. The boy was driving without a license or insurance, police say. He and his 20-year-old passenger were take to Oregon Health and Science University for treatment.
After he was released from the hospital, the driver was arrested on several charges including DUII, assault, reckless endangering, criminal mischief and reckless driving. Police indicate the boy's blood-alcohol level when the crash occurred.
