Searchers are becoming more doubful they will find missing Kyron Horman alive. The feeling of dispare is increasing and some searchers have given up. But the vast majority of police and FBI agents are still hopeful something positive will turn up.

Meanwhlile, most Oregon public schools have beefed up their security and are shutting their doors as Kyron Horman remains missing. In fact, since the 1992 rape of a 12-year-old girl after she was abducted from Kellogg Middle School in Portland many Oregon schools have changed the way they allow unauthorized people into their schools.

In Salem-Keizer, elementary schools' front doors are locked; middle schools and high schools lock every door except the front door, according to Raymond Byrd, security manager at the school district. High schools have security officers, and guests at any school are required to sign in and clip on a visitor's badge.

More than a week ago, Kyron Horman was discovered missing. The boy's mother walked him almost to his classroom about 8:45 a.m. and left. She didn't find out he'd been absent all day until he didn't return home on the school bus.

Speaking to the press, Kyron Horman parents, with tears streaming down their faces, thanked searchers, investigators and the media for keeping the quest alive to find the Skyline School second-grader with the wide smile. They wore T-shirts with Kyron's photo and the word "MISSING" in bright orange.

"Kyron, we love you, we miss you, and we need you home right now," said Tony Young, Kyron's stepfather and a Medford police detective.

"Your school friends and your family, teachers, the staff at your school and the community as a whole has shown how much impact one little boy's smile can have on a community. You mean everything to us, and until you come home, this family is not complete."
