Devestating fire consumes home and businesses in Cloverdale

CLOVERDALE, Oregon -- A devestating fire consumed a home and two businesses in the coastal town of Cloverdale. Firefighers faught the four-alarm fire all afternoon and Tillamook Fire District Fire Marshal Rueben Descloux said about 100 firefighters and responders battled the blaze, which began at about 4 p.m. Friday.Destroyed the fire was Sher-Win Auto Repair and mostly collapsed the Nestucca Fire Administration Building.

Also heavily damaged was a Napa Auto Parts store. Police closed Highway 101 for several hours as firefighters attempted to control the heavy flames. They also evacuated several homes in the nieghborhood. Firefighters were forced to retreat because the fire spread up into the second story of the auto parts store and the attic of the fire station.

The damaged buildings included 140 feet of frontage road by Highway 101. Firefighters removed equipment in time, but teir main station and administration building were damaged. One person suffered non-life-threatening burns. An investigation into the cause of the fire began today.
