PORTLAND, Oregon - At 5:15am, Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to 6609 SE Taggart St. to a reported house fire. When fire crews arrived, they found fire coming from the front windows of the home. When they entered the structure they immediately located a large hole in the floor just inside the front door. This caused a dangerous hazard to the fire crews. They were able to work around the hole and quickly extinguish the fire. While searching the home, fire crews located an adult male. Fire crews quickly assessed the man and determined that he was deceased.

Portland Fire Investigators responded to the scene and determined that the cause of the fire was careless smoking. There were no other injuries reported at this time.

Portland Fire & Rescue extends our condolences to the family of the deceased man.

Portland Fire and Rescue would like to remind everyone to be careful with cigarettes and dispose of them safely.
