PORTLAND, Oregon — An Oregon State Police trooper is suing Washington County's 911 Center over what they say was mishandling of a call that ended with him shot 12 times.
Nic Cederberg and Hayley Shelton filed the federal lawsuit in Portland Monday.
Cederberg's lawsuit claims Washington County dispatchers issued an "attempt to locate" bulletin for James Tylka on Dec. 25, 2016, but left out that Tylka had just fatally shot his wife and was armed and suicidal.
The lawsuit says if he would have known he wouldn't have chased Tylka's vehicle down a dark, rural dead end road where Tylka rammed his patrol car and started a gun battle.
Cederberg's asking for about $20 million for pain and suffering while Shelton as his caregiver is seeking some $10 million.
