TIGARD, Oregon - On Monday, August 6, 2018, at 5:20 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the area near Northwest Broadway and Northwest Glisan Street on the report that a vehicle was carjacked and the suspect had driven over a pedestrian while driving the stolen vehicle.

As officers responded to the area of the carjacking and injured pedestrian, they learned the suspect had left the area in the stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle was described as a teal Hyundai Santa Fe. Officers learned the suspect had brandished a knife as he forced his way into the Sant Fe which was occupied by multiple people at the time of the robbery.

Officers arrived in the area and located an injured adult male who was reportedly struck multiple times by the Santa Fe that was driven by the suspect of the carjacking. Emergency medical personnel arrived, provided the injured man emergency medical treatment and transported him to an area hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Additional officers searched the area for the stolen vehicle and suspect.

While officers searched for the suspect and the stolen vehicle, a caller to 9-1-1 reported a vehicle matching the carjacked vehicle's description had rolled over on southbound Interstate 5 near Southwest Capitol Highway. The caller to 9-1-1 reported the driver of the vehicle that rolled over on Interstate 5 exited the vehicle after the crash and forced his way into a silver Toyota Camry, that was on Interstate 5 and occupied an adult female driver. Officers responded to the area and began to search for the Toyota Camry. When officers arrived in the area of the roll-over crash they contacted the victim of the second carjacking. Officers did not locate anyone suffering from injuries as a result of the crash.

A Tigard Police Department Officer responded to assist with the search and located a vehicle near the crash location on Interstate 5 that matched the suspect vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled from the officer. The officer pursued a Toyota Camry he believed to be driven by the carjacking suspect. When the suspect arrived in the area of Southwest 29th Avenue and Southwest Multnomah Street the suspect crashed into an occupied BMW sedan. Officers performed a box-in maneuver on the Camry and took the suspect into custody without incident. The driver of the BMW did not suffer injuries that required transportation by ambulance to an area hospital.

Based on information learned at this time, officers believe the suspect taken into custody near Southwest 29th Avenue and Southwest Multnomah Street was also the suspect in the carjacking and crash near Northwest Broadway and Northwest Glisan Street. Officers requested emergency medical personnel respond to assess the suspect after he was taken into custody based on officers' observations of the suspect's behavior. Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the suspect to an area hospital for assessment.
