SALEM, Oregon — Oregon state senator Brian Boquist (Republican from Dallas) filed a lawsuit against Gov. Kate Brown and other lawmakersr, denouncing the passage of a controversial March tax bill violated Oregon's constitution.
On Tuesday, Boquist filed the suit in state tax court attempting to block Senate Bill 1528.
This effort is equal to the latest Republican objection to the bill, passing the Legislature in March, and terminated a federal tax deduction created by Trump from automatically lowering Oregonians' state income taxes.
Because Oregon uses residents' federal tax numbers to calculate the amount they owe the state, the federal deduction was set to basically copy directly onto Oregonians' state taxes, automatically lowering them as well and costing the state about $217 million in its first two years.
