SALEM, Oregon - On Tuesday at about 8:32 PM OSP Troopers from the Salem Area Command received a driving complaint of a reckless driver on I5 in Marion County.
The driver was identified as Jimmy Eduardo Maeda-Escobar, age 21, was arrested for multiple crimes including DUII, Reckless Driving, Attempt to Elude, Hit and Run, and Reckless Endangering.
The pickup truck was traveling northbound on interstate 5 passing vehicles at high rates of speed on the shoulder. When OSP attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle attempted to elude law enforcement. OSP terminated near Woodburn for safety reasons. The vehicle was located a short time later in the Portland area by the Portland Police Bureau. Maeda-Escobar's vehicle crashd into another vehicle before fleeing southbound on I5. With the assistance of multiple law enforcement agencies, spike strips were deployed an the vehicle stopped on Interstate 5 at milepost 283 on the left shoulder.
After a short stand off Maeda-Escobar was removed from the pickup and taken into custody. The freeway was shut down in both directions for approximately 45min.
