GRESHAM, Oregon - On Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 8:25pm a man walked into the Gresham Police Department lobby and reported that his adult son, 35-year-old Robert Lopez of Gresham, had just shot and killed his girlfriend, 34-year-old Hillary Vodden of Gresham. Gresham Police Officers immediately responded to the house in the 2000 block of NW 7th place in Gresham. When they arrived, they found Mrs. Vodden inside, dead from a gunshot wound.

At 8:42pm, while Gresham Police Department investigators were responding to the NW 7th place address, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a vehicle crash on Highway 26 at SE Haley road where it was reported that the male driver of the crashed car was deceased. The driver, identified as Mr. Lopez, had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and deputies quickly learned that the car in the crash belonged to Mrs. Vodden. As a result of the investigation, police believe that Mr. Lopez shot and killed Mrs. Vodden and immediately drove east to the location on Highway 26 where he killed himself.

Anyone who was a witness to either incident in this case and has information that would be important to the investigation is asked to call Gresham Police via the tip line at 503-618-2719 or toll free 888-989-3505, callers can remain anonymous.
