Great Oregon ShakeOut and Portland Public Schools' Youth Disaster Academy

PORTLAND, Oregon - The Great Oregon ShakeOut and Portland Public Schools' Youth Disaster Academy are taking place this Thursday to raise awareness about what to do during an earthquake, and steps residents can take to prepare.

All Oregonians are encouraged to join the ShakeOut earthquake drill at 10:19 a.m. on 10/19 and "drop, cover, and hold on tight." More information on the ShakeOut can be found here: www.shakeout.org/oregon.

This morning, students at Benson High School will participate in a Youth Disaster Academy organized by PPS, the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management, and Portland Fire & Rescue to learn emergency preparedness skills. The training includes hands-only CPR, an introduction to search and rescue/medical triage, small fire suppression, radio communications, and an overview of local hazards
