On Thursday August 24, 2017, at 10:19 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a suspicious person in the 5400 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street.

Officers arrived and observed a subject near a Ford truck with numerous items strewn about the ground near the Ford truck and trailer attached to the truck. The responding officers recognized the subject as 32-year-old Jordan M. Chambers of Portland.

The responding officers knew detectives with the Portland Police Bureau Detective Coordination Team (DCT) were attempting to locate Chambers. DCT detectives suspected Chambers in multiple cases of Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Elude by Vehicle, Elude On Foot as well as other charges.

Detectives with DCT believed Chambers was responsible for fleeing from police on July 8, 2017 in a stolen vehicle. As Chambers attempted to escape capture, during this incident, he flipped the stolen vehicle he was driving, ran from the crash scene and was not located after the pursuit. Chambers left a passenger in the vehicle as he fled on foot. The passenger sustained minor injuries as a result.

DCT detectives also tied Chambers to an incident on August 12, 2017, at the U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer, located at 7345 Northeast Sandy Boulevard. An employee of the dealership observed Chambers steal a trailer from the U-Haul facility. When officers approached him he fled from the area in a vehicle, nearly colliding with a responding police officer. Chambers' driving was so dangerous that officers chose not to pursue him. Based on information learned during the August 12th investigation, officers believed that Chambers had stolen a trailer the day prior as well.

Chambers is also believed to be responsible for the theft of three other vehicles on August 21st, 23rd, and 24th. During the August 23 motor vehicle theft, Chambers stole a City of Portland Water Bureau vehicle. The vehicle was located a short time after being reported to the police.

After being arrested on August 24th, Chambers was transported to North Precinct where he was interviewed by detectives. Chambers was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Reckless Endangering, Fail to Perform the Duties of a Driver with Injury, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle (four counts), Attempt to Elude by Vehicle (two counts), and Theft in the First Degree (two counts).

Chambers will be arraigned on Friday August 25, 2017.

The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members to keep the interior of their vehicles "showroom" clean. Community members are advised never to leave valuables, including bags, purses, wallets, briefcases, laptops, tablets, cell phones, loose change or anything that may appear valuable to a thief in plain view.
