The suspect in a stabbing, shooting and vehicle crash that required nine people be transported to the hospital; two for gunshot injuries and seven because of injuries sustained during a car crash, has been identified as 20-year-old Vesther J.J. Brown. Brown was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail on two counts of Attempt Aggravated Murder, two counts of Attempt Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Assault in the Second Degree.
Based on information learned in the investigation so far, Brown knew the people that were victims in the stabbing and shooting.
Brown will be arraigned on Tuesday August 22, 2017.

###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW### On Sunday August 20, 2017, at 12:55 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a stabbing in the 16500 block of Southeast Division Street.
Officers arrived in the area and contacted the victim of the stabbing. The stabbing victim sustained an injury that did not require transport to the hospital and he was treated at the scene.
While investigating the stabbing, officers learned that people in the area heard gunfire in the 16100 block of Southeast Sherman Street. Additional officers responded to this location and located a woman who had a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. The woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
While investigating the shooting on Southeast Sherman Street, officers learned the suspect in this shooting was also the suspect in the earlier stabbing on Southeast Division Street. Officers continued to investigate both the stabbing and shooting, during which time they learned the man had left with a young boy in a truck.
At 1:14 p.m., a caller reported a multiple-vehicle crash near the 15600 block of Southeast Division Street. Additional officers came to the crash scene and located a young boy with a gunshot wound and multiple people with injuries from the traffic crash. The suspect involved in the shootings, stabbing and traffic crash was also at the scene. The boy was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was taken into custody and firearm located and taken as evidence. There were seven victims in the car crash that were transported to area hospitals by ambulance with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team and Child Abuse Team Detectives are responding to the location.
The area on Southeast Division Street between Southeast 154th Avenue and Southeast 158th Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic for the next two to three hours as the three related incidents are investigated.
