PORTLAND, Oregon - Today, the Portland Business Alliance released a survey, commissioned in partnership with TriMet, regarding Portlanders' views on the city's transportation system. Traffic and congestion are top concerns for Portlanders, with no other transportation issue even coming close.

The Alliance and TriMet contracted with Moore Information to conduct the survey, which was fielded July 13-16, 2017. The Alliance commissioned the report to gather specific data on how residents are feeling about the transportation system, as well as traffic and transportation-related issues facing the city. The survey was done in response to growing concerns about traffic and congestion throughout Portland, and concern voiced by members about the need for a balanced, multimodal system that works for all modes of transportation and all users of the system.

A total of 457 Portland residents (ages 18 and older) were surveyed. In addition to 400 interviews conducted citywide, the survey included an "over sample" of residents in Outer East Portland to ensure the voices of those in that geographic region were heard clearly in the results. Surveys were conducted through live cell phone and landline interviews.

"Given the rapid growth and prosperity our region is experiencing, it's no surprise Portlanders' are feeling the strain of our transportation system," said Alliance President and CEO Sandra McDonough. "We have long advocated for a holistic approach to transportation planning that is responsive to the priorities Portlanders identify for our city's leaders. We hope this poll will help City Council understand how Portland residents would prioritize solutions for addressing our city's growing congestion problems."
