SHERIDAN, Oregon - On Friday at approximately 2:40 PM the yamhill dispatch center was notified that a woman of unknown age was reported to be missing on the river, was on a paddle board heading down stream from the bridge in Sheridan. Crews from Sheridan Fire District, Yamhill County Sheriffs Office, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue's water rescue team and Polk County Sheriffs were a part of the search. A plane and Helicopter were requested to assist with the search of the river and shore line.
At 5:09 PM tonight the woman was found alive, in the river, near the bridge referred to as the "green" bridge on Broadmead rd. The Fire District has no information about the condition of the woman at this time.
The Fire District would like to thank the two county Sheriffs office and Tualatin Valley & Rescue Water Rescue Team for their efforts during this incident. Approximately thirty people were involved in the search and rescue operation between all the agencies. The Fire District is thankful that the situation was resolved quickly and with a good outcome.
The Fire District would like to take a moment to stress the importance of water safety. We encourage everyone to wear life jackets during water recreation activities, wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water and utilize the buddy system. When attempting to float or traverse the river we encourage you to tell others your plan for where you are putting in and where you will pull out and a time that you expect to be done.
At this point the fire district does not anticipate releasing any additional information about this incident.
