WEST LINN, Oregon - On Thursday at about 4:50 PM, a caller to West Linn Police reported that there was something unusual going on in the 6200 Block of Preakness. The caller said a female was heard saying "what are you going to do, shoot me?" and a male voice say "I'm not going to jail."

Officers arrived in the area and contacted the female home owner by phone and quickly learned that her son, 30 year old Tyler Edward Kern of West Linn, was armed with a handgun and that she did not feel safe. Officers talked to Kern who allowed his mother to leave. Approximately an hour later the incident was peacefully resolved when Mr. Kern came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators learned that during an argument with his mother Mr. Kern assaulted her, pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her, and fired the gun into the ceiling. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries by TVF&R and AMR.

Mr. Kern was taken to the Clackamas County Jail on charges of Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault 4, and Strangulation. The case will taken to the Clackamas County District Attorney.
