Lebanon Man Arrest for Attempted Murder During Mothers Day Celebration

LEBANON - Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon reports deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Vaughn Lane in Lebanon. When deputies arrived, they confirmed no one had been injured.

Deputies learned that Peggy L Gomez, 55-years-old of Lebanon, was having a Mother's Day barbecue with her sons, Hunter Gomez, 34-years-old, and Billy Jack Gomez, 35-years-old, who live at the residence. The investigation revealed Hunter Gomez and Billy Jack Gomez had been involved in a brief scuffle prior to the barbecue. As Hunter Gomez was preparing the grill, Billy Jack Gomez went into the house and retrieved a high caliber rifle. From inside the residence, Billy Jack Gomez fired the rifle from the living room through the screen door. The bullet narrowly missed Hunter Gomez and struck the ground. This occurred in a residential area of Lebanon.

Billy Jack Gomez was arrested and lodged at the Linn County Jail for attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Deputies were assisted by members of the Oregon State Police and Lebanon Police Department.
