SALEM, Oregon - Senator Ron Wyde said FBI Director James Comey should be immediately called to testify about the status of the Russia investigation.

Both of Oregon's U.S. senators were extremely critical of President Donald Trump decision to fire FBI director James Comey Tuesday. Comey was conducting an investigation into the president's associates' ties with Russia.

Ron Wyden said Trump's decision was "outrageous. and that Comey should be immediately called to testify about the status of the Russia investigation.

"At this point, no one in Trump's chain of command can be trusted to carry out an impartial investigation," Wyden said.

Senator Jeff Merkley also criticized Trump.

"Trump's explanation for firing Comey is as phony as a three-dollar bill," the Democrat said. "Trump's pattern of firing people who are investigating him is downright Nixonian, and Members of Congress of both parties should treat it with the same gravity that our predecessors did during Watergate."
