PORTLAND, Oregon - On Tuesday May 2, 2017, at 8:56 p.m., a Traffic Division Motorcycle Officer reported that he'd been involved in a traffic crash on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard, just north of Holgate Boulevard.

The officer was treated and released from a Portland hospital.

Central Precinct and Traffic Division officers responded to the scene, as well as medical personnel. The officer was alert and conscious at the scene and initial information indicates that he did not suffer any serious injuries. The officer has been transported by ambulance to a Portland hospital for treatment.

The other involved driver remained at the scene and the cause of the crash is under investigation. Based on observations by officers at the scene, the other driver has been taken into custody on suspicion of impaired driving.

Preliminary information indicates that the officer was stopped in the left turn lane of McLoughlin Boulevard to turn into Ross Island Sand and Gravel when the other driver crashed into the rear of the motorcycle, knocking the officer and bike onto the pavement.

62-year-old Robert John Kaleta was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Reckless Driving late Tuesday evening.

Northbound traffic on McLoughlin Boulevard from Holgate Boulevard was temporarily closed as Traffic Division officers conducted the crash investigation.
