Two female residents escaped an early morning, fast moving house fire in Clackamas before firefighters arrived.
At 1:10am multiple callers reported a house on fire at 13511 SE Barbara Jean Ct in Clackamas. Clackamas Fire District #1 responded to the working fire, and first arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire in the garage and on the back of the house. Clackamas Fire crews worked aggressively to make entry into the home to extinguish the fire and search the structure for possible trapped victims.
A complete search for possible trapped victims in the house was complicated by the extent of damaged caused by the fire, and crews eventually located the uninjured residents outside the home. Eleven fire crews with more than 20 firefighters fought the fire which was declared under control at 2:02am with assistance from Gladstone Fire.
The Red Cross responded to scene and assisted in finding both residents lodging. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Early morning fires like this one have the potential to cause serious injury or death. Clackamas Fire District #1 would like to remind everyone to install and maintain working smoke detectors in their homes.
