A mom and her 5 children ages 10, 6, 3, 2 and 11 months safely evacuated their apartment Thursday afternoon when fire broke out in the bedroom. The woman quickly called 9-1-1 and dispatchers sounded the alarm at 2:05. Firefighters from the Hillsboro Fire Department responded to find flames coming from a 2nd floor window at the Pinewood Village Apartments, 1018 NE 17th Avenue. Firefighters knocked down the flames within 10-minutes of dispatch. Significant fire damage was confined to one room of the apartment, with additional fire damage to the exterior siding and into the attic space.

The apartment below the fire unit suffered water damage as well. No damage estimate has been determined. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross responded and will be providing assistance to the family. There were no injuries.
