Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Deputies have identified the driver in Friday's fatal crash as Michael Vanwoert, age 19 of Gervais, the Sheriff's Office thoughts are with the Vanwoert family. With summer fast approaching the Sheriff's Office asks all of our motorist to please drive with caution and obey all posted speed limits.

Deputies have now cleared the scene of the earlier fatal crash, deputies determined that the driver was traveling on Jefferson Scio Drive, negotiating a curve when the car left the roadway and impacted a tree head on. The Sheriff's Office does not intend to release anything regarding the identity or gender of the driver until tomorrow afternoon. Deputies do believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies are currently on scene and investigating a single vehicle crash in the 3200 block of Jefferson Scio Drive, near Jefferson. The initial investigation is showing that a vehicle was traveling northeast on Jefferson Scio Drive when it left the roadway and struck a tree, killing the driver instantly.

One lane of Jefferson Scio is closed but traffic is able to move through the area. Deputies will remain on scene until they can complete their investigation. It is obviously very early into this investigation and the Sheriff's Office is not prepared to release the identity or the gender of the driver involved in the crash at this time.
