On Sunday June 5, 2016, at 4:30 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a multiple vehicle crash on I-5 southbound at Jantzen Beach/Hayden Island.
As officers, firefighters and medical personnel were responding to the scene they received an update that one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames and there were a total of four vehicles involved in the crash, including a tractor-trailer.
Officers, firefighters and medical personnel arrived at the scene and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but discovered the deceased driver inside the vehicle.
The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct an investigation into the crash.
I-5 southbound through Hayden Island is expected to be closed for 4-6 hours so drivers are encouraged to use I-205 as an alternate route. Northbound traffic has one lane open through the area.
Drivers that are stuck in traffic due to the crash are encouraged to be patient - officers are working to get vehicles off of the freeway.
