California man charged with assault and attempted murder

On May 27th Hood River Police Officers arrested a California man, Matthew Irwin, 41, on charges of Assault first degree and Attempted Murder.

A citizen called the Police after seeing what appeared to be a severely beaten woman being loaded into the back of a white Nissan Xterra in the McDonald's parking lot on Cascade Ave. Police Officers discovered Irwin's girlfriend, Kelly White, 35, of California, in the backseat of his vehicle and was in need of medical attention.

White was transported by ambulance where she is reported to be in critical condition with life threatening injuries. This is an ongoing investigation by the Hood River Police and Hood River County Sheriff's Office. The assault is believed to have taken place on the evening of May 26th near Wanapa St. in Cascade Locks, OR.
