At 5:15pm today an apartment fire was reported at N Interstate and Alberta. Initial crews reported seeing heavy fire and smoke from a second story apartment window. Fire spread throughout the 2nd story apartment but was stopped before spreading to two business below. All 3 residents who were inside when the fire started made it out safely and no injuries were reported. Fire investigators are working on a determination of cause but did note that no working smoke alarms were found in the apartment. This apartment fire was under control in less than an hour thanks to swift action by fire crews to prevent spread to the locally run businesses below.

PF&R would like to remind Portland residents the following about the importance of smoke alarms:

Smoke alarms are the single most important item to help you survive a fire. While fire doesn't have to happen, when it does, early warning is imperative for escape.
