Detectives and criminalists were called to the scene of last night's Motel 6 parking-lot shooting. At about 2:36 a.m., while still conducting their investigation, detectives saw a vehicle with a headlight out. The vehicle's description matched that of the suspect vehicle -- described in witness statements as being associated with the shooting suspect who drove into the parking lot of the Motel 6.
A detective attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle, but the vehicle did not stop and sped away -- fleeing the scene in the wrong direction on a one-way street.
Portland Police units in the area quickly located the vehicle and a short pursuit ensued.
The vehicle crashed in the area of SE 92nd Ave and SE Holgate in Portland, Oregon. Two of the occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot.
A perimeter was established and a PPB officer located a 17-year-old juvenile suspect nearby. That juvenile was found in possession of a firearm. Another firearm was located in the crashed vehicle. The juvenile was turned over to juvenile authorities.
Two females were also found in the car. One was arrested on a warrant and the other was interviewed and released.
Judge John Frederick Edwards, age 18, of Portland, was located in the area by a police canine. He is the suspect in the shooting of the man in the parking lot of the Motel 6. It bears mentioning that Mr. Edwards' first name is Judge and this is not a title.
